After over three decades of classic 4/4 dance music motivating the world's party goers, clubbing has become one of our best loved forms of cultural expression. In that time we've discovered that certain ingredients work. The music, the DJ, the sound, the space, the attitude, the ambience and the audience. Each of these play an integral part in shaping the best possible party.
Born in 2014, Glitterbox is a celebration of each of these ingredients, with careful attention paid to each, ensuring a party in the finest traditions of recent history's most celebrated clubs.
Flying in the face of temporary fads and fashions, Glitterbox focusses on the aspects that have traditionally made clubbing such a thrilling experience; impressive production values and carefully sourced venues, DJs who really know how to play, joyous music that stays in your mind for days after leaving the dancefloor. These are the aspects that put smiles on the faces of Glitterbox's attendees, smiles that light up the eyes of their peers on the dancefloor way more than the glare of a mobile phone used to document a dour, darkened DJ could do.
Over 30 years of classic disco and house music, plus contemporary offerings that share the same philosophy, go into making up the Glitterbox soundtrack. Presented in some of Europe's best clubbing venues, including the terrace at Space in Ibiza, where Glitterbox holds a Friday night residency for the esteemed club's final season, plus Ministry Of Sound in London and several festivals, it will journey further still in 2016. This soundtrack is presented by some of the most capable DJs on the circuit including Masters At Work's Kenny 'Dope' Gonzalez, Joey Negro, Dimitri From Paris and Defected Records boss Simon Dunmore, whose much loved 17 year-old label curates the night.
For their 2016 appearances in London, Ibiza, Croatia and elsewhere the likes of Basement Jaxx, Todd Terry, Roger Sanchez and John Morales all joined the party on multiple occasions, lending their talents to Glitterbox's most ambitious and successful year to date.
The night also released the third and fourth of their Glitterbox mix CDs in 2016. Issued by Defected Records, who are famed for putting out some of the finest compilations in dance music, the series continues to define the club's distinct soundtrack, tracks being culled from the extensive collection of Simon Dunmore.
While much of dance music tries to reinvent itself or retreads paths walked before, Glitterbox stands still, confident in its classic soundtrack, confident in its abilities to deliver all the ingredients that make up that special party you've looked forward to all week, confident in timeless clubbing.
