Glitterbox is a record label and nightlife phenomenon conceptualised in 2014 by Simon Dunmore, founder of house music institution Defected (est. 1999). Now co-owned by Defected CEO Wez Saunders, since inception Glitterbox has generated an inclusive, uplifting party atmosphere designed to unite all ages, persuasions and walks of life on the dancefloor.
Glitterbox calls on the world’s most respected DJs such as Armand Van Helden, Honey Dijon, Masters at Work, Jayda G, Moodymann, Purple Disco Machine, Derrick Carter, Horse Meat Disco, Dimitri From Paris, Folamour and more. Iconic tastemakers Kiddy Smile, Natasha Diggs, DJ Harvey, Yasmin, DJ Holographic and many more take to Glitterbox’s stage to showcase dance music in its purest forms, alongside PAs from titan vocalists Chaka Khan, Kathy Sledge, Jocelyn Brown, Kathy Brown, Barbara Tucker and Gabriels. Completing the experience is the brand’s world-class dancers and production colliding to create unforgettable dancefloor moments around the globe.
Spreading joy and celebrating the enduring legacy of house and disco at world renowned venues such as Ibiza super club Hï, London’s Printworks and KOKO, The Warehouse Project, Creamfields, IVY Sydney, Tomorrowland, Rex Club in Paris, New York’s iconic Pride, House of Yes, Arca Brazil, Glastonbury festival and many more. One of the world’s hottest parties, its signature glittering production, euphoric moments and welcoming atmosphere have been replicated digitally via live streams, broadcasted from iconic cultural venues such as Royal Albert Hall in London.
In March 2021 Glitterbox released its first documentary Where Love Lives, a moving love letter to the dancefloor featuring Billy Porter, Honey Dijon, Kathy Sledge, Kiddy Smile and John ‘Jellybean’ Benitez alongside Glitterbox performers Lucy Fizz, The Mx Fit and TeTe Bang. Picked up by streaming service Amazon Prime and awarded at various international film festivals, the documentary was met with critical acclaim and profiled by the BBC, Evening Standard, Gay Times, Elle, Resident Advisor and many more major media outlets.
The Glitterbox imprint releases music from the likes of The Shapeshifters, Purple Disco Machine, Cassius, Mousse T., Candi Staton, Kelly G. and Folamour among many others. The accompanying weekly Glitterbox Radio Show has become the ultimate destination to catch the party on the go with a global community of over 12 million spanning across 25 countries. Often hosted by broadcaster and Glitterbox’s Director of Music Melvo Baptiste, the show has welcomed artists across the dance spectrum and has featured interviews with icons such as Elton John, Jocelyn Brown, Jazzy Jeff, George Benson, David Morales, with a special 400th episode taped live at Defected's East London HQ in December 2024.
