In a letter to fans at the end of the festival, our CEO Wez Saunders said:
As the dust settles on what has been an incredible few days, and an extraordinary summer for Defected and Glitterbox, I wanted to take a moment to say thank you once again.
To everyone who joined us on a dancefloor, to every artist who played, every performer, and to the teams working around the clock behind the scenes to make the weekend happen - thank you. The energy, atmosphere and togetherness you created across Malta was incredible.
A huge thank you must also go to our partners and friends at 356, alongside the entire Defected team. The amount of work that goes into delivering a weekend like this is enormous, and I couldn’t be prouder of what everyone created together.
For me, though, the most special part will always be the people.
The conversations in airports, backstage, on dancefloors and in hotels. The familiar faces we see event after event, year after year. The people joining us for the first time. The friendships that have started on our dancefloors. The stories you share with us about what Defected and House Music mean to you…”
Each year, Defected Malta’s offering has grown, with this year’s new stage The Beach offering an open-air coastal backdrop and music from world-class Glitterbox favourites.
The Beach joined The Ditch, Café Del Mar and the hub of the festival, multi-room open-air club UNO to create an island-wide experience like no other.
A perfect getaway to escape the post-summer blues, temperatures over the weekend rose to highs of 28 degrees, combining with a cool ocean breeze for the ultimate dancefloor temperament.
“Those moments remind me that Defected has always been about something much bigger than events, records or festivals. It is a real community.
And seeing that community come together in Malta, from so many different cultures and walks of life, united by this music, is something I will never stop being grateful for.
There is plenty more to come from us before the year is finished, starting with Ibiza this weekend, then ADE, Australasia, NYE in London and Manchester, and more.
But for now, from me and everyone at Defected, thank you. Thank you for travelling with us. Thank you for dancing with us. Thank you for believing in what we do. And most importantly, thank you for continuing to make Defected what it is. We Are Defected.” - Wez Saunders, CEO and co-owner, Defected Records
