‘Not About You’ featuring Hadiya George and ‘La Femme Fantastique’ featuring Josh Caffe will be the first taste of new material from her second album Black Girl Magic.
Following the announcement of new material earlier this year, Classic Music Company is delighted to announce the return of Honey Dijon, with not one but two records from her forthcoming album Black Girl Magic in quick succession. Single ‘Not About You’, to be released Friday 31st July, sees Honey teaming up with emerging Atlanta talent, singer/songwriter Hadiya George, in an irresistible ode to a testing kind of love, illustrating Honey’s dedication to absorbing, living and breathing dance music’s origins, while exploring a new sound that offsets the darker, tougher elements of her catalogue. Due to be released a week later on Friday 7th August, ‘La Femme Fantastique’ featuring Josh Caffe is Honey at her unapologetic, hedonistic and achingly cool finest. As Josh’s captivating vocal narrates, the hypnotic lyrics are echoed in Honey’s mesmerising production, making for an industrial and electrifying club cut.
In ‘Not About You’, as Hadiya’s lovelorn vocal narrates, “why you always got to play the fool, that’s why I wrote this song for you,” the flawless production forms the backdrop, weaving deep grooves and rhythms with fluttering, melodic keys and Honey’s signature dancefloor-ready flare. Steeped in the sounds of the Chicago nightclubs Honey grew up in, this empowered, glossy house cut is an inspired preview of what is to come on this anticipated LP.
'Not About You' is about the communal love and joy we all experience on the dancefloor as one. The dancefloor is a place to leave all labels, inhibitions, and prejudices behind. A place to create dreams and manifest desires. After all, it's not about me, it's not about you, it's about us! - Honey Dijon
The accompanying music video for ‘Not About You’, which also drops on 31st July, is the work of artist and animator Ciaran McCusker, who has created a trio of videos for Honey including both upcoming singles and one other, to be announced before the release of the album.
The pumping second single ‘La Femme Fantastique’ captures the energy of a hot and steamy dancefloor in full flow, and will be accompanied by a gorgeously X-rated video by Ciaran, manifesting sex positivity and uninhibited expression on the dancefloor, things that Honey Dijon celebrates unequivocally. ‘La Femme Fantastique’ sheds new light on the evolving artist.
Working with sculptor Jam Sutton, 3D digital renderings of Honey can be seen on both singles’ artwork, “The sculpture collaboration with Honey explores identity, form, technology and classical portraiture. I spent a day with Honey in my studio during her London show residency; after brainstorming ideas and conversations about life and creativity, I wanted to capture her personality and strength which I found incredibly inspirational.”
Their work together will be unveiled in parts, to coincide with Honey’s future releases, “We wanted to create a series of sculptures which exist separately as fragments and join together as a main piece,” Jam explained.
‘Not About You’ will be released on 31st July, ‘La Femme Fantastique’ on 7th August, both via Classic Music Company. Stay tuned for further announcements on the album Black Girl Magic via @classicmusiccompany.
